Indonesia is renowned for its incredible natural and cultural wealth, and South Sumatra is one of the regions that offers unparalleled charm. From majestic mountains to tranquil lakes, this area has everything for travelers seeking breathtaking destinations.

Through this design exploration, I aimed to create a tourism app interface that focuses on ease, convenience, and visual appeal, showcasing the beauty of South Sumatra to the world. The app is designed to help users effortlessly discover, explore, and plan their journeys in a more enjoyable way.

The Vision Behind the Design

The inspiration for this design came from the desire to effectively promote the natural and cultural beauty of South Sumatra through technology. The question was: “What if every corner of South Sumatra’s beauty could be explored with just a few taps on a screen?”

By focusing on clear information, intuitive navigation, and standout aesthetics, this design aims to create a digital experience that is both captivating and informative.

Key Features of the Design

Here are the main features of this tourism app design:

1. Engaging and Personalized Home Screen
   The home screen welcomes users with a friendly greeting and destination categories such as Parks, Mountains, Lakes, and Museums. Clean navigation allows users to quickly explore the destinations they’re interested in.
   
   

2. Popular Destinations with Captivating Visuals
   The Popular Places section highlights the top destinations like Mount Dempo and Ranau Lake with stunning images. Each destination card includes ratings, location, and quick action buttons for more details or to add to favorites.
   
   

3. Detailed Destination Pages
   When users select a destination, they’re taken to a detailed page that features:

   • High-quality destination images for a vivid visual representation.
   • Comprehensive descriptions, including historical information, activities, and entrance fees.
   • Interactive navigation showing the destination’s location on a map.
   • A clear “Book Now” button for immediate reservations.
     
     

4. Intuitive Navigation
   The bottom navigation bar provides easy access to all main features, such as Home, Search, Favorites, and Profile. Minimalist icons ensure the app remains modern and user-friendly.
   
   

5. Visually Inviting Design
   The warm color palette, combined with stunning images of South Sumatra’s destinations, creates an inviting atmosphere that encourages users to explore further.

The Design Process: Simple Exploration with a Focus on Local Identity

This project is part of a simple design exploration aimed at promoting local beauty through a digital approach. The design process focused on:

• Prioritizing Information Clarity: Ensuring that relevant destination details are easily accessible.
• Blending Local Visual Elements: Incorporating images of local destinations and design elements that reflect the natural beauty of South Sumatra.
• Color Palette with Identity: The chosen palette of red and golden yellow aligns with the cultural identity of South Sumatra, evoking a sense of pride and connection to the region’s heritage.
• Simplifying the User Experience: Designing intuitive navigation so users can focus on exploring and planning their trips.

Reflection on This Design Exploration

This design exploration has been a truly fulfilling project, as it allowed me to showcase the beauty of South Sumatra through an interface that is both simple and impactful.

I’m particularly proud of how the Detailed Destination Pages turned out, offering essential information in a clean and visually appealing layout. The warm palette of red and golden yellow, paired with high-quality images of the destinations, creates a visual experience that inspires adventure while paying homage to the cultural identity of South Sumatra.

This project reinforced the idea that technology can be a powerful tool in promoting local cultural and natural richness.
